ABSTRACT This project work Design and Implementation of an E-registration system in tertiary institutions will help enhance the efficiency of data capture and shortens registration processing time for both the students and the school. Its objective is to develop a registration software system that replaces the manual method of registration in Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo. This project work makes use of data collection from the school, materials and journals from various authors. The methodology used is the object oriented analysis and design methodology and the analysis of the existing system shows that it is prone to error. The benefit of the proposed system is that it speeds up the registration process and ensures prompt release of student’s registration number. The implementation of the E-Registration system was carried out using Hypertext Pre-processor (PHP) for the program and the server used is the xampp server. The developed software performed well and produced expected results on completion; in conclusion, this project work if implemented will allow students to register remotely without having to be physically present on campus. There is need for tertiary institutions to computerize their registration system for greater efficiency, neatness, and reliability. This will go a long way to save both the students and the registration officers all the trouble they go through trying to register one form or the other. The greatest innovation that has taken place in the twentieth century is in the realm of information Technology. This is currently made possible by the introduction of the digital computers which has been observed in the field of communication to be increasingly inseparable from communications. These linkages often referred to as convergence is driven by technology and amplified by business trends and schools. Faster growth in network systems that use communication links to connect subsidiary system (nodes) which may send and receives, direct and redirect information (Solomon .M. 2010).

Computerization is a process by which routine activities are taken into the computer. This is also the use of micro electronics to help people do their job easily and even faster. This has aided the difficulty of many activities which had formally been carried out manually in the secondary institution. This project perfect the efficiency and accuracy of result processing in order to speed up the result processing task of the Gift international school. That is changing from manual way of processing result to a systemized one. The system also allows students to be registered electronically. It also enhance the generation of the statement of result of students of the Gift international school. The system is efficient, accurate, timely and effective, so it can be used to replace the manual system. The projects start from describing the goals and objectives of the project. Some literatures were consulted and reviewed. Also material on database, data processing, problem and features of result processing system. The system analysis, design and implementation followed. The project ends up with summary, recommendation and conclusion. The system was developed using Micro media Dreamweaver and Php and Mysql.

Student’s course registration and result processing is one of the most important elements in schools. These data must be processed under critical management, while requiring simple operations for processing the examination results. The need for student to have access to their result on time and accurately cannot be over emphasized. Scores from examination taken by student need to be returned to the student to enable them know their performance in the various courses written. Course registration and result processing system (COUREP) was carried out to verify all the manual process involved in generating Students Examination Result and to seek a way of automating the system for effective operations. Since there is continuous moves towards technological advances that enhanced productivity of labor and free human beings of task more economically by machines. Computer and its appreciations have become vital tools in economic, industrial and social development of advanced countries of the world. This system is designed to efficiently handle processes like inputting scores, storing results, classifying the grade points automatically calculated, and interpreting data of students overall result. The usual manual process now reached a level where it is difficult for the available man power to cope with the magnitude of examination work, in the given time span, The balance between the man power availability and the magnitude of the examination work result in the delay in the release of results. The most effective measure, which can improve the efficiency of the examination system, therefore is the introduction of computerization especially with the use of Examination Result Processing Software in various activities related to the conduct of result reduces the time span required for the release of results by 60 percent and reduces the process by almost 40 percent.
