1. Biographie • Birthday: 18. July 1918 in Qunu, Transkei • His father Henry Mgdala Mandela is an deputy leader of the Thembulands • After the death of his father he becomes a leader of election district • After his school qualifications he goes to university of Fort Hare to become lawyer • He is a member in the council of students • In 1940 he take part in a protest campaign and as consequence he is banished from the university • In 1942 he becomes a member of the African National Congress (ANC)

1. Biographie • 1944 he helps to found the ANCYL (the youth league of the ANC) • 1948 he is ANCYL member (ANC youth league) • In 1950 Nelson becomes ANCYL President • In 1952 he becomes ANC Transvaal President and National Vice-president • 1952 he founds the first black lawyer’s officewith his partner Oliver Tambo • Nelson Mandela realizes that the way of the Apartheid regime isn’t a way of law and fairness, thus he becomes an enemy of the regime • He is accused in the famous trial of the south African government against the ANC

Biographie • After the Sharpville Massacrein 1960 the ANC is banished as an political party Nelson Mandela is in prison until 1961 • After his release from prison he leads the Umkhonto we Sizwe(MK), which is the military branch of the ANC • In 1962 he leaves the country to start a military training in Angola • In Angola he leads the training of other MK members • On his return he is arrested • After his first charge he has to stay 5 five years in prison, but after the Rivonia trialhe gets life imprisonment
